"Barn" Stories
The barn was burned down in March of 2005. The response was
overwhelming to rebuild the barn. The Tippecanoe County government ruled
that the barn could not be rebuilt on their property. Please send your
comments and memories of the "Barn."

The Barn itself is the memory!!! I am so saddened by this. What happened to rival schools sneaking in and painting the barn? Of course this was arson, but by whom??? Was it another school or a disgruntled HHS student? Either way, they didn’t just destroy a barn; they destroyed 25+ years of memories. Maybe the Alumni site should start a rebuild fund. Anyway, my personal memories are just being there with some really good friends. Being out on a Friday or Saturday night…….Great Times!!!

I am really disturbed, as the same thing happened in 1979. It is really
disturbing to see history repeat itself.

I have special memories of the barn. My special memories are every time
we go by there it is fun to see the barn, until now.

It was so sad to hear about the barn. Not only did it effect me,
with putting my name on it when I was a Harrison, but it effected my family as well.
I have children at Harrison and they as well have had the honor of putting their names
on as well. It has indeed saddened us.

My favorite memory of the Barn, was painting it our senior
year. I came to help and wore my senior cords and some of my classmates
painted my cords with the raider school colors. I still have my senior
cords. Didn't the class of 1971 start the painting of the barn
tradition? It's nice to be involved with the beginning of a tradition.

I was very saddened to hear about the barn burning this past weekend.
The last memory I have of painting the barn was the morning of my very dear
friend Mandy Jackson's funeral. The barn painting that day brought a little
light to our very sad day that I will never forget. I hope that they will be
able to rebuild, and continue to keep the spirit of Harrison and it's memories.

As a Harrison alumni, and someone that grew up just down the road from the barn, it is very sad to see that someone would do this to something that meant so much to so many. I have lived out of the area for the last 6 years and am back just for a short time, and it is my hope that the barn will rise again, so that when I return with my girls they too can enjoy the barn with their friends. Lets get the fund raising started!

When I was attending Harrison, I never got the chance to paint The
Barn.
So, for our 25 year reunion, my husband Don and I, and two of our good
friends who are also classmates, Hal and Rick, decided to paint The Barn
about 2:30 in the morning. We had haligen lights lighting up the whole
Barn and it just glowed. We were just finishing up when a sheriff's car
appeared and drove through the school. We gathered everything up and
took off. The sheriff pulled us over to see whose vehicle was still
parked at school. When my husband gave him his license, the sheriff
looked at him and said, "Aren't you a little old to be painting the
Barn?" We just laughed. But looking back, we are never too old to
keep
such an honored tradition going!
Good luck to all of those who are trying to make it possible for a new
Barn to be built!
